My Philosophy
How do you approach life? How do you think and feel about your relationships, family, job, hobbies, yourself…? Have you been frustrated with how certain parts of your life have turned out?
The way we approach things can make all the difference, but our approach to life is often something that we inherit from our family and upbringing without realizing it. It is the air we breathe – and we don’t often think about breathing. Thus, we don’t get to determine for ourselves how we want to approach our life, which I think that is quite important! If you’re feeling stuck, perhaps what you need is to find a new approach.
My philosophy at Approach Counseling is to help you examine your approach, evaluate whether that is something that you truly want for yourself, free yourself from it if it is not, and forge a new approach that is uniquely yours. This can help you to experience more freedom in your life and shed the things that keep you trapped in a place that is not genuine or authentic.
A simple principle has guided much of my work with people. Many people ask if I think they are crazy. I tell them that we always have a reason for doing what we do – even if we don’t understand what it is! That’s why it is important to understand the reasons behind what we often do automatically and unreflectively, and take back control over our actions, make reactions into pro-actions, and get back into the driver’s seat of our lives. Once we establish or re-establish a strong sense of identity, it fuels a more purpose-driven life that affords satisfaction and meaning.
